He is none other than the American competitive eater Joey Chestnut who won ten times in the Nathan’s famous hot dog eating contest. Joseph Joey Christian Chestnut is an American speed eater known for his competitive eating speed. He has won and made many records in eating competition which astonished everyone. Joey recently made a new record in the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest 2017 which held at Coney Island, New York City by eating 70 Hot Dogs and Buns in 10 minutes (HBD).
Joey Chestnut was born on 25th November 1983 in Vallejo, California, United States.
Joey Chestnut did his engineering at San Jose State University and graduated in the year 2012. His mother was a home-maker and his father was middle school teacher. Joey had two elder sisters, two elder brothers and one younger brother. When Joey used to come home he would empty fridge so fast. His younger brother was the person who noticed it and realized that Joey has the ability to eat a lot so fast. In 2005, Joey was encouraged by his little brother to participate in a lobster eating contest at a casino in Reno, Nevada for a free hotel room. It was the moment when Joey recognized his ability.

After realizing his eating skill, Joey started to practice with a challenge to become a competitive eater. He never thought before that this would become his career. His first remarkable performance was made in the year 2005 when he beat high-ranked eater Rich LeFevre by eating 6.3 pounds of asparagus in 11.5 minutes in the deep-fried asparagus eating championship. After that Joey made many records which made him very famous. Joey has taken part in more than 20 eating competitions in a year by travelling across the world.
Starting from 2005 till now every year he has participated and won in many competitions. Some of his highlights are eating 47 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes in the year 2006, 103 Krystal burgers in 8 minutes in the year 2007, 78 matzoh balls in 8 minutes in the year 2008, 10 and a half pounds of macaroni and cheese in 7 minutes in the year 2009, 380 wontons in 8 minutes in the year 2010, 20 half pound Corned Beef sandwiches in 10 minutes in the year 2012, 70 bratwursts in 10 minutes in the year 2013, 12.8 lbs. deep fried asparagus in 10 minutes in the year 2014, 32 quarter-pound pork roll sandwiches in 10 minutes in the year 2015, 15 pounds of shrimp cocktail in 8 minutes in the year 2016, winning in Nathan’s hot dog contest for ten times (Since 2007 except 2015) and so on. According to statement of mercury news, Joey holds about 43 world records.
Joey trains hard himself for the competition and gets advice from doctor regarding his health. In the process of preparing for the contests, Joey used to fast, in-take water, milk and protein supplements to stretch his stomach, run, work-out, stop eating solid foods, swim, walk with his dog and do trial runs. When Joey goes for the competitions, he used to go with empty stomach and sometimes he takes luke warm water while competing to relax his muscles. After the completion of competition, Joey takes certain diet and measures so that he will be able to maintain his health.
During Comic-Con 2010, Joey participated in Guinness World Record attempt at Tin Fish Restaurant. World record holder Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas gave nick name to Joey as “Jaws” to congratulate his performance. At present, Major League Eating and the International Federation of Competitive Eating have ranked him as the No.1 competitive eater in the world.
Joey Chestnut’s favorite food is prime rib and his most preferred contest is Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. He used to take part in contests from March to August. Joey eats many things like hot dogs, chicken wings, chili, sandwiches, eggs, ice cream, pork ribs etc.., but never had the preference to eat raw oysters. He also avoids eating sweets.
In the year 2014, Joey proposed to his girl friend Neslie Ricasa but they split before their marriage. He has planned to get back to construction management once he enters the family life.
