Mike Hughes was born in the year 1956.

Early Life of Mike Hughes

Mike Hughes has raced motorcycles, worked as crew chief (auto racing) in National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). In 2002, he had set a Guinness world record with a 103-foot jump of a Lincoln Town Car stretch limo according to Ars Technica.

About Mike Hughes

Mad Mike Hughes is a 61 years old limo driver and self-taught rocket scientist who lives in Apple Valley, California. He earns $15 per hour plus tips as a limousine driver. He is called as a daredevil as he has designed & built a steam powered rocket on his own and launched himself in it. His aim is to enter space with this rocket and prove that Earth is flat by taking photograph of the same. In the year 2014, Hughes built his first manned rocket and flew a quarter-mile which is 1,374 feet over Winkelman, Arizona. He was collapsed due to the g-forces while trying to land because of problem. It took 3 days for him to recover after that incident which had led him to be carried out of the rocket. He was also been in walker for two weeks after that.

Mike designed and built his rocket using salvage parts in his garage, aluminium in metal shops, aircraft air filter for nozzle & Rust-Oleum paint in a motor home. He did his project in the property leased from Waldo Stakes, the CEO of Land Speed Research Vehicles. The total amount he spent for the project is $20,000. The rocket is projected to reach speeds of over 500 mph. He has planned to launch himself 1,800 feet into the air in order to prove that Earth is flat. For this project, he started his fundraising attempt by launching a kick-starter campaign in the year 2016 but he was able to raise only $310. After that, he got support from Flat Earth Community for his second campaign on GoFundMe which was titled Flat Earth Community Rocket Launch organized by Research Flat Earth. It raised almost $8,000 fund which was given to Hughes in exchange of mentioning Research Flat Earth slogan on the sides of the rocket.

Initially, Hughes had planned to launch the rocket in an airstrip in Amboy, a ghost town in the Mojave Desert on 25th November, 2017 but for that, he was not given proper approval from Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Federal Aviation Agency (FAA). BLM directed him to FAA for the approval to conduct the launch in that location as it was a public property. Due to the approval problem and some mechanical problem in rocket launcher, the launch was not able to done on that day. Hence, he had postponed it to 2nd December, 2017 and also had changed the location to a private property owned by Albert Okurafour miles away. But still BLM maintains that some permits need to filled by Hughes.

Mike Hughes still keep on approaching for the required approval to carry out the launch. He is confident that he will one day prove to the world that Earth is flat. Future plans of Hughes is to run for governor of California and an excursion into space in a Rockoon.

Genetic or Learned

Fearless nature of Mike Hughes and his ability to build a rocket on his own without having belief in science can be well termed as genetic. Somehow from his invention we can guess that he would have also learnt some techniques before proceeding.
