On hearing the term Zombie Boy, you might think that whether Rick Genest is a person who has been brought back to life from death by magic or looking horrible creating fear in people or having no human qualities or eating humans. But it is not so. He is a person who has tattooed himself with brain, bones, skulls, insects etc.., all over his body and face resembling a Zombie. Hence he got the name as Zombie Boy.

Rick Genest Superhuman Superpower

Rick Genest is a man who tattooed most bones (138) and insects (178) all over his body like a corpse or skeleton with distinctive piercings through his nose and between his eyes. Zombie boy also got his tongue split. He has over 90% of his body covered in ghoulish or spooky body art.


Rick Stephan Genest was born on 7th August, 1985 in LaSalle, Quebec, Canada.

Early Life

Along with his parents, Rick Genest grew up in Montreal, Canada. He was diagnosed with brain cancer/tumour by doctors at the age of 15. He had only minimal possibility for survival. After six months from the day of diagnosis he had a surgery in which nearly half of his brain surgically removed to fight the disease. He luckily got his life back. After surgery, he had his first tattoo which is a skull and crossbones on his arm. His love towards Zombie created an impact on him and he wanted to become one.

Zombie Boy decided to experiment on tattoo and he tattooed first on his arm a skull and crossbones at the age of 16. After graduating high school at the age of 17, he ran out of his house and started to live an anarchistic lifestyle. He lived on rooftops, dumpsters and under bridges, slept in squats and washed cars. For moving from one place to other he used hitchhiking method. He tattooed as a living skeleton and worked in various sideshows, carnivals and freakshows across Canada. He wanted to look different and loved to be called as a freak.

About Rick Genest

The Zombie boy Rick Genest is an actor, freakshow performer and fashion model from Canada who covered the majority of his body with corpse tattoos resembling a Zombie. One of the post on BME’s ModBlog by Shannon Larratt in 2006 introduced Zombie boy to the public. His iconic tattoos were complete in 2008. He got media coverage after his interview on RzyM’s Channel. He was featured in magazines, Ads, films and TV shows. Bizarre magazine mentioned about him in 2008, he appeared in the carnival of TV movie Carny as a Tattooed Man in 2009 and he worked with Alive on the Inside at Carnivàle Lune Bleue 2010 where he was discovered by Marc Quinn.

Rick Genest was then discovered by Nicola Formichetti, fashion director of Lady Gaga and creative director of Mugler with a Facebook fan page that was created for Zombie boy. He started featuring on many Ads, shows and films such as in the new Thierry Mugler Autumn/Winter men’s collection, fashion show for the women’s 2011 Autumn/Winter line, Born This Way, Hard To Be Passive, Go Beyond the Cover, L’Oreal as spokesperson, Sabotage, Jay-Z music fashion label, 47 Ronin, Aquario, In Faustian Fashion, Love at Last Sight, Silent Witness and Dirty Rejects.

According to Rick Genest, the tattoos he has on his body is about $20,000. He has surrounded his eyes with black rings, covered torso with ribs and sinews tattoos as well as creepy spiders’ webs and teeth etched on to his lips. His future plans are to get his teeth sharpened, inject ink into my eyeballs and make them look toxic green. As verified on the set of Lo Show Dei Record in Milan, Italy, Rick Genest is the person to have 176 insects tattooed on his arms, torso, back and head and 139 human bones tattooed on his body, reproducing part of his skeleton.

Tonner Doll Company produced Zombie Boy, a limited edition character figure( 400 dolls) resembling Zombie Boy for the San Diego Comic Con held in the year 2012 which were fully sold out. Those dolls were signed by Rick Genest as Rico the Zombie and he was a guest of Tonner at the convention. More than 60,000 people follow him in Twitter. These shows that how much he has reached the public. Genest is currently pursuing DJing acts alongside a possible career as a recording artist. His journey of tattooing is expected to be continued.

Genetic or Learned

The appearance of Zombie boy Rick Genest can neither be said as genetic nor learned. But since he has pictured himself as a Zombie by tattooing over majority of body and trying a thing which no one has tried it can be put under learned category.
